Character: Estellise "Estelle" Sidos Heurassein
Age: 18
Canon: Tales of Vesperia
Canon Point: before heading to Tarqaron
Background: Estelle @ the Tales of wikia
Personality: Initially, Estelle is very much what she looks like: a princess. Having grown up within the capital's castle all her life, she's a touch sheltered and more than a bit naive. Up until the events of the game, almost all of her knowledge came from books and various tutors she's had. While this gave her a vast amount of knowledge regarding things like mythology, politics, and technology, it didn't do all that much for her street smarts. If you were to ask her about a random, miscellaneous fact, she'd probably be able to answer it without a doubt, but on the other hand she has little actual real-world experience. In that sense, she takes things at face value; things like jokes or sarcasm tend to fly by her, and instead she'll take it seriously. She's not exactly what you would call dense, but she does tend to be rather gullible. Still, she's polite in her words and does her best to learn and understand the new things that surround her.
However, beyond that Estelle is one of the kindest, most compassionate people you could ever meet. No matter who it might be, it troubles her to see someone in pain or suffering, and she will always do her best to help them whether it be by healing their wounds or aiding them in some other way. Others may see it as naivety or stubbornness when Estelle tries to see the best in everyone, but that's just the way she is; she is not a hateful person, even when someone wrongs her. She chooses friendship and companionship over indifference and hostility, even if they might be the most bristly of people or difficult to get along with in general. When Estelle accidentally kills someone, someone who had shown nothing but generosity and understanding towards her, they simply told her with their dying breath to never forget about the deep compassion Estelle has for other people. It's her heart that makes her special, who she is; no title or special powers can define Estelle so easily.
Unfortunately, her compassion is often what leads her to trouble as well. Due to the fact that she wants to help so many people all at once, it often turns out like she's leading everyone else to do a bunch of things at the same time. She frequently has trouble coming to a firm decision by herself, sometimes needing a gentle nudge into calming down and thinking about what she really wants to do. It happens enough times where she even gets called out on it; even if she has the best intentions at heart, in the end she's simply doing whatever she wants without a care towards what the others want do, making them follow her with whatever whim she has. She can be a bit selfish in that she sometimes doesn't take other people's feelings into consideration when she wants to do something i.e. wanting to do too many things at once due to her indecision. As she matures over the course of the game though, Estelle comes to understand what it is that she truly wants to do and comes to her own decisions on her own, without help. She develops critical decision-making skills and is able to make them just fine by the end of the game.
Beyond her nobility and role in saving the world and all that, Estelle is really just your average person as well. Her love for books not only extends to just reading them, but her personal dream is to someday become a writer and write her own stories for others to read. She simply loves stories of any and all kinds. Estelle also seems to have a fondness for animals if her affection for Repede is any indicator; however, despite her efforts to befriend the dog, he always seems to scoff at her attempts of friendship or otherwise ignore them. Though it always leaves her disappointed, she also always resolves at the end to one day befriend Repede and other animals, somehow and some way. At the end of the day, Estelle is really just like a lot of other people with common wants and desires: she wants to know more about the world, and she wants to know more about herself. Most of all, she wants to be able to live in the world she loves with the people she cares for.
Abilities: Estelle is capable of using artes, otherwise known as magic and physical skills more or less. She's very good at healing artes, and most of her attack-based magic spells have an elemental affinity for light. She's also capable of magic like boosting defense and attack temporarily or even rendering someone invulnerable for a short amount of time. Her physical attack artes are different sets of strikes and combos with her weapon. Back home Estelle is also known as "The Child of the Full Moon"; it will have little relevance in the game, but back home it meant that she could use her powers without needing to use blastia like everyone else does. A full list of her artes can be found here.

First Person Sample: Here.
Third Person Sample: It had been a normal enough day in all honesty. Estelle had been on her way to the market, planning on buying a few groceries to try out a recipe. The ingredients list was so simple that she was sure she could cook the dish. (She was gravely underestimating what it meant to sautee
onions, but that was another story for another day.) She'd just gotten to a stand of brightly-colored vegetables and a slightly overenthusiastic merchant when she heard a cry.
"Please, someone help me!"
Estelle whipped around immediately, the groceries all but forgotten. Just ahead of her was a child and a man trying to rob them of the backpack they had. Even as the rest of the shoppers looked on in surprise and hesitation, Estelle ran forward straight to the scene. She might not have had her sword or shield with her, but that didn't stop her from wrenching the man away from the backpack with all her strength. He stumbled backwards as he let go, likely surprised that a young girl of all people managed to shove him away like that, and all his aggression quickly faded once he realized how many people were watching the commotion. Knowing he was defeated, the burglar quickly made his escape.
Rather than chase after the criminal though, Estelle turned around and knelt down by the child, a boy. He couldn't have been older than five. He had been crying earlier, but as she carefully held their backpack to them, she realized that the crying had died down into quiet sniffles. She smiled gently.
"Here. I believe this belongs to you." She watched carefully as the child rubbed his eyes with his arm, nodding silently as he took the backpack from her. "Are you alright? That man didn't hurt you, did he?"
The boy shook his head this time, smiling tremulously. "I'm okay, Miss. Thank you for getting this back for me."
"Oh, you're very welcome! I'm just glad to hear that you're fine. What's your name? You can just call me Estelle."
And that was how Estelle's trip for groceries went completely forgotten as she talked to and stayed with Fred until his parents were able to come for him. It wasn't exactly how Estelle planned her day to go, and she needed to report the burglar to the local authorities, but as she cheerfully waved the boy goodbye, she couldn't help but feel that it wasn't a bad day. No, it hadn't been a bad day at all.
